Welcome to our Arts College
Matravers first gained specialist arts status in 2001 and achieved redesignation in 2006. Specialist arts status enables us to offer students a wide range of experiences in the arts, both in lessons and in extra-curricular activities, supported by excellent resources and facilities. Our Arts provision for students was judged to be some of the best in the country when we achieved the Artsmark Gold award in 2006, 2009 and again in 2013.
Specialist arts status allows us to invest more in our drive to help students achieve their best in all areas of the curriculum. It also creates opportunities for students to work with primary school children and the wider community, developing skills which can lead to the achievement of the Youth Arts Award. Visits by professional artists and performers and a lively programme of events in summer schools mean that there are opportunities for all students to participate for enjoyment, enrichment, learning or career development.
As part of the schools specialist schools status in "Arts" the school provides a range of courses catering for the differing elements of the arts.
The teaching and learning that takes place through the Arts develops self-esteem, self-confidence, self-worth and develops skills that are transferable across the rest of the curriculum.
The value of Dance, Drama, Music and Art is seen throughout key stage 3 and key stage 4 in a wide variety of ways.
At key stage 4, there is an extensive breath of courses to allow all students to work to their strengths. Traditional GCSE’s are enriched by vocational courses.
The breadth of these courses available to all students allows for continued high success rates in the Arts.
