GOVERNOR VACANCIES AT MATRAVERS SCHOOL
The Matravers Governing Board is made up of 14 Governors from various sections of the community. We sometimes have vacancies for new members on our Governing Board, when we invite applications from across the community. There are currently no vacancies.
WHAT IS A GOVERNING BOARD AND WHAT DOES IT DO?
Governors are one of the biggest groups of volunteers in the country and becoming a school governor involves taking on one of the most important and valuable roles in education: the strategic leadership of a school. As a member of the Governing Board, you would support the school in providing the best possible education for its pupils, by assisting the Headteacher to set the school’s strategic priorities and policies.
The successful candidate will share the Board’s vision to create the best opportunities for all those in the Matravers family.
WHO CAN BE A GOVERNOR AT MATRAVERS?
You do not have to be an education expert to be a school governor. What is most important is having a genuine desire to ensure Westbury’s young people receive the best education possible and we would especially welcome applications from parents of students currently studying at the school.
No prior experience is necessary as induction and training will be provided to all successful applicants. However, it is anticipated that all applicants will be IT literate, be confident in the use of email and have a basic understanding of Microsoft Office (informal training can be provided as necessary and ongoing support will be available). All of our documents are stored in a collaborative working environment on our governor SharePoint site and you will be shown how to access these from your home PC.
All applicants are requested to complete an application form and if appointed, to undergo a referencing process and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This is necessary to comply with the school’s safeguarding obligations.
Appointments to the Board of Governors are made in line with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010.
