Welcome

Introduction

Matravers Sixth Form was established in 2000 and has grown steadily year by year. We now offer on average thirty AS/A level courses and BTEC Diplomas at level 3 in ICT and at levels 2 and 3 in Travel and Tourism. We have a history of students achieving superb above national results and progressing on to Higher Education and good careers.

Matravers Sixth Form students achieve excellent results. Through supportive and challenging teaching we ensure that we cater for all students and have a strong record of success with students of widely differing abilities and aptitudes. We enter all students for exams as long as we believe they have a possibility of passing them. Students and parents are given very clear information and guidance about their performance throughout their courses and will be made fully aware of their potential, targets, progress and achievements.

The majority of our students go on to Higher Education and this year, despite challenging conditions nationally, the vast majority of Year 13 students who applied to higher education gained places on their chosen courses. We provide an excellent programme of support for students applying to university and college as part of our careers programme. We guide students to become more independent learners during their time with us so that they are able to manage the freedom and responsibility for learning offered by higher education courses. We also provide a programme of support to help students develop skills to manage aspects of independent life like financial management and staying healthy.

Communications between ourselves, students and their families are of the utmost importance. We believe that students will be most successful when supported through partnership and ensure that there are regular reports and opportunities for parents and students to consult teaching staff. All students will have regular one-to-one meetings with their tutors in which they will monitor progress towards targets and career aspirations, benefiting from advice and support as necessary.

It is important to choose the right subjects and the right courses when you decide to continue with your education after GCSE examinations. We offer you more opportunities to find out about the Sixth Form and our courses at the Prospective Sixth Form Evening. You are also welcome to visit at any time to see the Sixth Form in operation and discuss the possibility of taking courses here. If you would like to visit, please telephone us on 01373 822666 or contact Ian Browning (ibrowning@matravers.wilts.sch.uk). If you decide to apply, you will find an application form in the prospectus which you should complete and return to us.
