Work Experience
Experiences of workplaces help pupils understand workplace expectations, explore career possibilities and apply employability skills in authentic contexts.
Matravers provides a varied programme of workplace-related opportunities. These include:
- Year 12 work experience week;
- Year 8 in-school work experience;
- Take Your Child to Work Day Years 7-13;
- employer-led workshops;
- workplace visits;
- virtual work experience where appropriate;
- mock interviews and recruitment activities.
Before taking part, pupils are supported to understand the purpose of the experience and how to conduct themselves professionally. Afterwards, they reflect on:
- what they learned about the workplace;
- skills they used or developed;
- strengths they demonstrated;
- areas for improvement;
- how the experience may influence future decisions;
- actions they will take next.
Equity of access
We monitor participation to identify pupils who may need additional help to find, access or benefit from a workplace experience. Support may include help sourcing an opportunity, preparing for the experience, arranging an alternative activity or completing structured reflection.
